Butyrate – In our Gut & in our Exogenous Ketone

Butyrate is a fatty acid that helps our gut work right. Foods high in Butyrate are Ghee, Pastured/grass fed Butter – and its also in KETO OS an exogenous Ketone powdered supplement from a company called Pruvit.

Butyric acid has been shown to help ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Fatty acids—like butyrate—help keep the gut wall healthy and sealed. Animal studies show that butyrate both suppresses the development of leaky gut and improves the intestinal barrier. This may be because butyrate actually encourages the immune system to make specialized immune cells that reduce inflammation.

Helicobacter pylori (commonly just called H. pylori) is a germ (bacterium). It can infect the lining of the stomach and duodenum (the first part of the intestine). Over half the world’s population has it. Once you are infected, unless treated, the infection usually stays for the rest of your life. Infection with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is the cause of most stomach and duodenal ulcers. H. pylori also causes some cases of non-ulcer dyspepsia. What is so fascinating is that Butyric Acid has been known to destroy h.Pylori. (here is the PubMed study confirming this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22194341 )

How many of my clients over the years have been given antibiotics to kill h.Pylori but the infection came roaring back a few months later. Some of my clients have had h.Pylori 5-6 times. Antibiotics may wipe out bad bacteria but they do not change the ground or terrain (health) of the gut – in fact – they destroy it by wiping out the healthy (good) flora. Now here we have Butyric Acid coming in via natural foods to destroy this bacteria, as well as helping the gut make good flora (bacteria) out of fiber. Healthy gut flora digest food by fermenting it. When they ferment certain types of fiber, they create butyrate.

Butyrate is also well known for protecting against colon cancer. This protection comes from its anti-inflammatory effects reducing oxidative stress and helping control free radical damage.

Another PubMed study goes further: The Microbiome and Butyrate Regulate Energy Metabolism and Autophagy in the Mammalian Colon (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3099420/ ) Butyrate regulates Metabolism and that is great news, but what is Autophagy?:

“Autophagy is a normal physiological process in the body that deals with destruction of cells in the body. It maintains homeostasis or normal functioning by protein degradation and turnover of the destroyed cell organelles for new cell formation.”

There are studies that show Butyrate suppressing appetite as well – so combining Butyrate with exogenous ketones is a true game changer. Exogenous Ketone salts, in this case – BHB – Beta-hydroxybutyrate combined with Butyrate and a few other natural ingredients in the 3.0 KETO OS Chocolate Swirl product is a truly ground breaking product. This is an exogenous ketone powder that actually tastes good! It is highly palatable, bound with fatty acids and can immediately create ketosis within the body. The company is called PRUVIT …. Your body can be in Ketosis, burning fat – your Native state – within an hour and you can Pruvit!
